Rep. Norine Hammond &The Lodge at Manito to host Free Diabetes Screening

MACOMB –Assistant House Minority Leader Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) in conjunction with The Lodge at Manito and Manito Medical Associates will host a Free Diabetes Screening event on Wednesday, November 29 from 11:00am-1:00pm at the Lodge at Manito Assisted Living & Memory Care Community. The public is invited for free screenings.
“November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. As we take an opportunity to bring attention to this disease, and its impact on millions of Americans, it’s important to get screened for your risk for type 2 diabetes,” said Rep. Hammond. “I am proud to partner with the The Lodge at Manito & Manito Medical Associates to provide a free screening for residents living in Mason County.”

The Lodge at Manito Assisted Living & Memory Care Community is hosting this FREE event and Manito Medical Associates will conduct the screenings. The Lodge has an assisted living wing and a memory care wing, each taking the resident’s life story to create a personalized approach to care. Owned by the Mason County Health Department, The Lodge is the first of its kind in the state of Illinois. “Our unique ownership allows us to be overseen by a Board of Health comprised of community leaders and physicians in Mason County. Operated by Prairieland Council; a local not-for-profit, ensures each decision is thoughtfully made with the residents of our community, and the residents of Mason County in mind,” states Lori Canada, Administrator.

According to the American Diabetes Association, in 2015, 30.3 million Americans or 9.4% of the population, had diabetes. Of those, 7.2 million estimated cases are undiagnosed. Over 84.1 million adults are living with prediabetes. “I encourage everyone to get screened, but especially our senior and high-risk populations,” said Rep. Hammond. “Please consider joining us for this event to evaluate your risk today and to take your care plan into your hands.”
