Rep. Hammond Named Friend of Education

State Representative Norine Hammond has been honored by the Illinois Education Association as a recipient of their “Friend of Education” award. The annual award is given to legislators who demonstrate a commitment to public schools in Illinois.

“Representative Hammond is a champion of public education. She is a tireless advocate for our students and schools and we’re so pleased to present her with this award,” said IEA President Kathi Griffin. “She is well known to educators in her district, listening to them and making sure their voices are heard in Springfield.”

“Quality schools and dedicated teachers are essential to the long-term outlook for my district and the entire state,” said Rep. Hammond. “I’m proud of my work on school funding formulas and other key legislation that supports the education needs of our community. I appreciate the partnership of the IEA as we work to continue to meet these goals in the future.”

Over the last year, Representative Hammond was instrumental in helping paraprofessional and education support staff navigate issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, including addressing issues in dealings with Illinois Department of Employment Security. In addition, her work on the current K-12 school funding formula brought more equitable funding to schools across Illinois.
