Hammond Legislation to Increase Information available to Health Care Consumers Signed by Governor

MACOMB –State Representative Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) announces her legislation to increase information on diabetes and cardiovascular complications available to health care consumers in Illinois was signed by Governor Rauner on Monday.

Under current law, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is required to publish risk-adjusted mortality rates for each hospital in Illinois based on information the hospitals already report pursuant to public health reporting laws.  This Hospital Report Card gives consumers access to information about the quality and safety of health care provided in Illinois hospitals.  Hammond’s legislation adds additional public reporting on diabetes and cardiovascular complications, which are relevant to patient safety.

“Diabetes and cardiovascular complications is the number one driver of health care costs in the nation.  By including these health issues in these reports, we will allow consumers to make better health care choices,” said Rep. Hammond.

Hammond encouraged residents of the 93rd district to contact her with questions or concerns on this or any other state issue. Hammond’s Macomb district office can be contacted at (309) 836-2707 and she can be reached via e-mail at rephammond@macomb.com. Hammond represents all or part of Brown, Cass, Fulton, Knox, Mason, McDonough, Schuyler and Warren counties.
