Durkin Selects Hammond for House Republican Leadership Team

Springfield, IL….House Republican Leader Jim Durkin on Friday selected State Rep. Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) as an Assistant Minority Leader for the House Republican Caucus.

“I am pleased to name Norine Hammond to the House Republican Leadership team,” said Durkin.  “Norine is a highly-respected and thoughtful lawmaker.   She is very clear in her positions and always takes a commonsense approach to solving problems.  Since joining the General Assembly, Norine has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and will be a great addition to our team.”

Rep. Hammond originally joined the Illinois General Assembly in December 2010 to fill the vacancy of the late Rep. Rich Myers.   Previously, she had served 14 years as his Legislative Aide.  As a lawmaker, her focus has been on agriculture, higher education, and job creation.

Norine attended Western Illinois University in Macomb.  She served as an Emmet Township Trustee from 2004 – 2006, and became Township Supervisor in 2006. She also served on the Macomb Planning Commission.  Norine is married to Leonard and together they raised one daughter Trish.

“I am so honored at this opportunity to provide a stronger voice for my region as an Assistant House Minority Leader.  I appreciate Rep. Durkin’s confidence in my legislative abilities and I look forward to working hard at doing what is necessary to fix our state’s endemic financial problems,” said Rep. Norine Hammond from Macomb upon hearing of the appointment.
